Interest is growing in the market as to whether Virnect will become Hanwha
Group's Rainbow Robotics. It is attracting attention because it handles
everything from humanoid robots to industrial robot solutions.
According to the industry on the 17th, Virnect is selling humanoid robots
developed by Unitree in China through its website. Interest is being focused on
the fact that Hanwha is Virnect's second-largest shareholder.
Since investing 10 billion won in Virnect in January 2022 to secure an
8.05% stake, Hanwha Group has been in full swing with its collaboration with
Hanwha affiliates, including XR. In this context, Virnect has established a
robot business team that develops business and carries out projects, including
establishing a robot business strategy and proposing sales.
In particular, it is showing its collaboration with Unitree, China’s largest humanoid group, through its website. Unitree is a Chinese
robotics company established in 2016 that focuses on the development,
production, and sales of high-performance quadruped robots. It also provides
various robot solutions, including consumer and industrial robots.
Unitree is particularly prominent in the field of quadruped robots. These
robots are active in various fields such as disaster support, facility
surveillance, security, construction, and environmental monitoring.
Unitree has applied for more than 180 patents and holds more than 150 international
patents. In particular, it has been recognized for its technological
prowess and has participated in several major events, including the 2021 CCTV
Spring Festival Gala and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, to
showcase its technological prowess to the world. In May of last year, it also
showcased its humanoid robot, surprising the world with its technology.
Unitree was valued at
over RMB 8 billion (KRW 1.5 trillion) during its Series C funding round in
September 2024, making it a unicorn company. It is currently a publicly traded
company with a market capitalization of around USD 5 billion.
Meanwhile, Virnect, which
has established a robotics division, has been providing solutions that enhance
the safety and efficiency of industrial sites based on its XR technology. It
supports users to understand the situation and solve problems without having to
physically go to the site through real-time remote collaboration, XR
content-based training, manuals, and digital twins. Through this, it is
overcoming the constraints of time and space and providing innovative services
in various work environments.
With the recent advancements in AI technology, collaboration has expanded
beyond human-to-human interactions to include human-AI collaboration. This
enables real-time information sharing and more efficient service delivery. By
applying this core technology to the robotics industry, it is expected that
various projects can be implemented.
Meanwhile, a company official said, “It is true that we are
working with a Chinese company on the robot business, but we cannot disclose
the details,” and added, “We will announce the details through a public announcement or press
release when the specific matters are underway.”
