ThinkForBL Hosts ‘TRAITHON,’ a Competition for Verifying AI Model and System Reliability

Participants directly verify model defects and search for solutions…

Presenting evaluation criteria such as reproducibility, traceability, and completeness

ThinkForBL held the opening ceremony and orientation for “TRAITHON” at COEX in Seoul on the 1st.

The competition is organized by ThinkForBL and sponsored by the National Information Society Agency (NIA). A total of 192 participants from 45 universities across the country registered, and 82 participants from 35 teams attended the event in person.

Unlike conventional hackathons, TRAITHON focuses on verifying the reliability of AI models and systems rather than simply improving their performance. Participants directly examine model defects and propose solutions.

In detail, the competition consists of a preliminary round and a final round.
The preliminary round centers on reliability evaluation—identifying defects, areas for improvement, and data vulnerabilities in AI models and systems, and designing practical solutions.
The final round evaluates whether the teams have successfully implemented their proposed plans and whether the model’s performance has been meaningfully improved. The evaluation criteria include reproducibility, traceability, and completeness.

Before the actual evaluation begins, participants will receive training. They will learn essential knowledge through online lectures and AI tutors. After completing the training, participants who pass a simple test will receive a “base kit,” which contains six tasks that will serve as a guide throughout the competition.

The NIA is providing support for the smooth operation of the event, including access to publicly available and proprietary datasets through AI Hub. ThinkForBL plans to ensure that participants can effectively use the provided data and will offer GPU support to finalists.

The competition will conclude in February next year, and outstanding teams will receive prize money and internship opportunities with ten Korean IT companies. So far, six partner companies have been confirmed: SelectStar, TubySoft, Ingen, Tiger Company, ThinkForBL, and Micro Information Technology.

“Reliability is both a blue ocean and an essential field,” said Shin Shin-ae, Director General of the NIA. “Although we trust AI, we can still be misled by AI hallucinations. There are real safety concerns surrounding AI, so I look forward to this hackathon, which focuses on education rather than competition.”

“Currently, very few people can verify reliability properly in their field,” said Park Ji-hwan, CEO of ThinkForBL. “I hope participants will learn to use AI as evidence. The ability to control and evaluate AI will become increasingly important. I hope everyone focuses on completing the journey without being overly conscious of competition.”
