Virnect Completes XR-Based 'Rescue Robot Training and Video Collaboration' Technology Demonstration with European Rescue Agencies

[Industry News Reporter Park Hyun-woo] Virnect, an industrial AI and XR solution company, participated in the SYNERGISE project, an international joint research initiative under the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, and successfully completed an on-site demonstration of XR-based disaster response solutions.

The demonstration was held at the SBFF Fire Protection Association near Stockholm, Sweden, in June, and was conducted as a PoC field demonstration based on real disaster scenarios involving rescue agencies from five European countries.

Virnect developed AR-based training content using △ rescue robots (ANYmal, SNAKE) and a remote video collaboration system using △ smart glasses as part of the project, and applied and verified them in a training environment for first responders.

Virnect’s smart glass solution supports stable multilateral video collaboration even in low-speed network environments, and its strength lies in enabling real-time information sharing and consultation in a hands-free state, even at rescue sites.

In addition, the AR-based training content helped improve repetitive training efficiency and mission response capabilities of field rescue personnel by implementing rescue robot operation procedures in the form of virtual simulations.

“Through this SYNERGISE demonstration, we verified that our XR technology can have a practical impact on global rescue sites,” a Virnect official said. “We will continue to expand the scope of technology applications in industrial safety and disaster response.”

SYNERGISE is part of the European Union’s Horizon Europe Disaster Resilience program and aims to build a future European disaster response system by integrating XR, AI, and robotics technologies.
